We have blending fibers in stock or you can send your own. Most 2nds/3rds require no more than 20% of a binding fiber. The quality of your yarn depends upon the incoming quality of your fiber. Sorting should be done by micron, color and fiber length. From the yarn spinning viewpoint, length is most critical for us. Fibers of different lengths in the lot cause slubs and boucles, making for lumpy looking yarn. Therefore, it is import to have fiber lengths within the lot as close to one length as possible.

Micron is important too. Do not put coarse and fine fibers in the same
lot. In example keep camlid legs separate from necks. We can spin neck fiber into beautiful yarn.

Vegetation in the fleece does not ALL come out during processing. Therefore the more vegetation free your fleeces are, the better quality will be your yarn.

Other services

Additional carding $4/lb Additional carding is sometimes required to minimize vegetation or improve blending. Price is based on carded weight.
Pin drafting $3/lb Pin drafting aligns the fiber, improving the drafting of the roving for spinning ease. Price based on clean, processed weight
Sorting and Skirting $8Removal of undesirable wool, dung tags, heavy vegetable intrusions from fleeces before washing. Sorting by color. Per fleece.
AdditionalPicking/run $2/lb This may be required to improve blending of fiber types and/or colors. Clean weight
Hand-picking $5/lb Additional picking by hand to remove cockleburrs and large pieces of vegetation that are damaging to machinery. Also fleeces that are over 7 inches or longer, because they can be damaged by the picker.

Your fiber will determine the end product you get. For roving we will always try a coil first, however, some fibers will not hold together to do this. If this is the case with your fiber, you may receive roving in a bag, batts, or webs.

Prices effective on fibers received after Aug. 1, 2009 and subject to change without notice
